This is technically perfect camera work. Every detail of these rare and wonderful machines has been captured. Your pic of the big red muscle car cornering at speed on a back-country farm road is my favourite, conjuring up tales of 1930s sly-grog runs in the King Country: I would have loved to see more cars on this road. You also finish well with the rear-end shot of a 1920s farmer and his wife in their spidery little car, apparently heading off to some God-forsaken returned serviceman's rehab block in the back blocks of the Waitotara valley. Unfortunately the photos taken on flat, straight sealed highways just outside town seem out of place here.

700 vintage car owners came from all over New Zealand - from all over the world even - to get photographed on the dusty, twisting 1920s roads in the Wanganui hinterland; for photos of their cars on clay farm tracks, crossing a ford in water 9 inches deep, climbing a steep and dusty farm-access road, parked under willows in a sheep paddock for a picnic, passing a farm cottage built in the 1920s, dust-covered, mud-spattered, radiator steaming, but courageously pressing on. The spirit of the car rally could have been captured with more of those shots.

Merit.
