My Aunty May

Miss May Smyth was the live-in family school-teacher of the Davey children at Jerusalem from about 1928 to 1936. "It took seven hours to get to Jerusalem on Hatrick's boat," she told me.

Later she was the chief cook at the Jubilee Home, Aramoho. She lived in Paterson Street with her two sisters, and they looked after me for five years while I went to St Augustine's College.
