On Sunday the 25th of March, 2007, one hundred and fifty people of all ages gathered at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Raetihi to celebrate its centenary. "The church is really a physical expression of the community of people" said Bishop Peter Cullinaine. And he praised the support that members of the Waimarino congegation had given each other over the past hundred years. This sense of enduring mutual support was described by the architecture high in the nave of the building where huge heart-rimu beams were tied together by steel fish-plates and connecting rods.

The soft pink light of the stained glass windows gave a warm feeling to the building. Each window carried a memorial message seeking prayers for one of the original parishoners. 'Pray for the soul of Rose Eliza Punch.' "She was my grandmother," said Moira McGifford. "There are lot of the Punch clan still in the district." Indeed the centennial cake was made under the direction of another Punch, Dorothy Battersby, by her daughter and granddaughters.
